Brain Functions in Humans
BRAIN AND ITS FUNCTIONS
Brain
Brain is the main organ of our body and controls Voluntary as well as Involuntary functions. Whatever we think, feel and performed all due to our brain working. You know shape of our brain is like Walnut which is dry fruit and boosts our brain function. If any part of our brain will destroy, then body will affect from it.
Cerebrum
Cerebrum is wrinkled part of brain which shows intelligence of person, if person has more wrinkled cerebrum it means he has more surface area. More the surface area, more the person will be intelligent.
Cerebrum is divided into two parts which are right and left cerebral Hemispheres. Left side for recognition of words and right for recognition of colors, if both works consecutively confliction occurs.
Right and Left Cerebrum are connected with nerve fiber known as Corpus Callosum.
Lobes of Brain
Brain is divided into four lobes which are part of cerebrum.
- Frontal
- Parietal
- Temporal
- Occipital
Frontal Lobe, the lobe which is present in front of our brain. It controls judgement, Problem solving activities as well as hunger, thirst, emotions, attention, behavior and muscle movement.
Second one is Parietal lobe which controls pain, pressure, Touch, Visual Functions.
Third part is Temporal lobe which works on visual and auditory memory.
Occipital lobe helps in recognition of color, words and movement.
Cerebellum
Cerebellum is present just behind the brain and divided into two parts like cerebrum. Cerebellum responsible for maintaining posture and for balancing or coordination. The person which drinks alcohol, his cerebellum affects badly that he can't stand properly.
Parts of Brain
- Forebrain
- Mid-brain
- Hind brain
Forebrain is the biggest part of brain which controls our Emotions, thinking, Hunger, Thirst, Attention and Judgement etc.
Behind the forebrain is Thalamus, Hypothalamus and Pituitary Gland.
- Thalamus gets sensory information from body and transfers it to cerebrum.
- Hypothalamus present just behind thalamus used for stimulating hormones, it activates and inhibits hormones functions.
- Pituitary Gland secretes various hormones in our blood which moves to organs like Thyroid gland, Adrenal gland and Reproductive system where functioning starts.
Mid-brain involved in cycles of sleeping and waking, motor movement, transmits information essential for vision and hearing.
Hind brain is divided into pons and medulla oblongata.
- Medulla oblongata responsible for involuntary actions such as breathing, heartbeat, digestion, vomiting, sneezing etc.
- Pons links cerebellum with brain and connected with spinal cord. Sleeping and waking cycles are controlled by it.
